Procreate has made a notable announcement regarding its stance on technology as it relates to creativity. The popular illustration application for iPad has declared its commitment to remaining free of generative artificial intelligence features. This decision comes amid a growing trend where companies, including tech giant Apple, are incorporating AI in various forms, showcasing their dedication to innovation within this rapidly evolving field.

In stark contrast, Procreate stands firm in prioritizing human creativity over AI advancements, setting itself apart from its competitors who are embedding AI into their platforms. The company articulated its perspective in a message shared on its official website, expressing that the technology many rivals are pursuing is not aligned with its vision. In its statement, Procreate emphasized that generative AI is fundamentally problematic, rooted in practices perceived as theft.

This comment likely references the ongoing legal disputes involving AI firms accused of misusing the copyrighted work of artists, musicians, and writers for model training purposes. Procreate further clarified its intention to avoid a technology that it views as a threat to authentic human creativity. Even though this decision positions the app differently in a landscape where competitors like Adobe and Canva are increasingly embracing AI, Procreate believes in fostering a community-centric environment for its users.

The parent company, Savage Interactive, reinforced this viewpoint by saying that generative AI contradicts its policies concerning creator privacy and ownership of their original artworks. Additionally, in a social media update, James Cuda, the CEO of Procreate, reaffirmed his objections to artificial intelligence, criticizing the broader industry’s direction towards incorporating generative AI tools in design applications.

As it stands, the Procreate app for iPad is available for a single upfront cost of Rs. 1,299, while the Procreate Pocket app can be purchased on iOS for Rs. 599.
