The anticipated sequel to the critically praised Streets of Rogue, featuring its signature pixelated action, will see a delay in its release. The developer shared this update through a blog post on Steam, specifying October 22 as the revised launch date for Streets of Rogue 2 under Early Access.
Matt Dabrowski, who continues to single-handedly develop the game, shared that the project has taken more time than initially expected. This is despite having brought in additional support. He explained in the Steam blog how the development timeline has been more complex than initially planned.
With a few more team members involved than the original game, Dabrowski remains the chief programmer and designer. He pointed out that programmers typically struggle with accurately estimating the time required for tasks. Extending this challenge to predicting the completion of an Early Access-ready game made it even harder to set a precise timeline. He aimed for a summer launch, but this intense schedule has now shifted the release to a calmer 2024.
Although the previous release date was within reach, it would have been too tight for comfort. The new schedule grants more flexibility, ensuring the game can be polished further and deliver a better experience. Dabrowski also announced that a large-scale playtest will occur in August or September, and interested players can request access through the game's Steam page.
Anticipation continues to build for Streets of Rogue 2, promising an enhanced continuation of the beloved original.
