Ryan Murphy's subsequent project following Netflix's acclaimed horror series Dahmer presents a haunting new teaser while announcing its release date.

Netflix has shared the first look at the upcoming sequel in the Monster series, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which promises to be just as unsettling as its predecessor. The teaser depicts two individuals approaching a gated estate, armed, as they make their way into the living room. The scene abruptly cuts to black accompanied by the sound of two gunshots in the background. In tandem with this preview, the streaming platform revealed that the series is set to premiere globally on Thursday, September 19.

This second chapter of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology narrates another high-profile case that captured American attention in the 1990s. It focuses on the infamous brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were found guilty of taking their parents' lives in 1996 and are currently serving life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The official synopsis provided by Netflix details the case's complexity. While prosecutors posited that the brothers were motivated by the desire to claim their family's wealth, the siblings argued that their actions were driven by a longstanding pattern of abuse inflicted on them by their parents. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story explores this landmark case that ignited global interest in true crime narratives, raising a pivotal question: Who truly embodies the title of monster?

The Monster series debuted in 2022 with the wildly popular and contentious drama Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, featuring Evan Peters as the notorious murderer and cannibal. Despite receiving mixed critical feedback, the season boasts an audience score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes and secured Peters a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Mini-Series.

This limited series stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as Lyle and Erik Menendez, with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny portraying their parents, José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez. The cast also includes Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, Dallas Roberts, and others.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will premiere on Netflix on September 19. For further insights, explore our compilation of the top Netflix shows or stay informed about upcoming television series.
